Baicalin Powder Scutellaria Baicalensis Extract CAS 21967-41-9
Baicalin is a flavonoid compound extracted and isolated from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis. It is a pale yellow powder at room temperature and has a bitter taste.
Insoluble in me-thanol, ethanol, ace-tone, slightly soluble in chloro-form and nitro-benzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in hot acetic acid. It is green in case of ferric-hloride, and orange precipitate is formed in case of lead-acetate.
Soluble in alkali and a-mmonia water, it turns yellow at first, and soon becomes black-brown. It has significant biological activities, with antibacterial, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, anti-thrombotic, relieving asthma, purging fire and detoxification, hemostasis, tocolytic, anti-allergic and antispasmodic effects, and is also a mammalian liver salivary enzyme. Specific inhibitors have the effect of regulating certain diseases, and also have strong physiological efficacy of anti-cancer response.
It is mainly used for the treatment of damp-heat, chest tightness and vomiting, damp-heat suffocation, dysentery and jaundice, lung-heat cough, high fever polydipsia, blood-heat vomiting, carbuncle sore, fetal movement restlessness.
In addition, baicalin can absorb ultraviolet rays, scavenge oxygen free radicals and inhibit the formation of melanin. It is a good functional cosmetic raw material.
